Sent to the Leeds Archives for the will of William Bond

Filed under: Correspondence — Tags: — bjstarmans @ 3:04 am

In repsonse to my emailed query, they responded:

Wills for Danby Wiske would usually be proved in the Archdeaconry of Richmond Eastern Deaneries. We hold wills for the Archdeaconry of Richmond Eastern Deaneries and I have checked the indexes for the wills which we hold unfortunately I have been unable to locate a will for William Bulmer c.1808.

There is, however, a will of William Bulmer of Streetlam in the parish of Danby Wisk proved 29 October 1825 (RD/AP1/172/64).

Since my only reason for thinking that William died in 1808 was an entry in the NBI, I’m totally convinced that this is his will so I’ve sent the photocopy request off.

BULMER  Ann    Stockton  10a 64

This search is for marriages for Ann Bulmer in NRY or Durham 1850-1861.

The first one is probably not my Ann because the marriage was 25 Mar 1850 and Wm was born 31 Mar, father unknown and it does not make sense that she would marry 5 days before giving birth and then not list her new husband as the father?  This marriage was in Osmotherley to a John Hodgson batch M041351

The second one has 2 possibilities (not listed in the IGI).  There is an Ann Bulmer and Jane Sanders who married John Bulmer or William Hewett.  Census records for 1861 do not lend much help.

The third one has a few possibilites.  Women listed are Ann Bulmer/Balmer, Elizabeth Davison and Jane Sargison while there are only 2 men listed: Robert Naisbit and Robert Short.  Obviously one of the men is ‘missed out’.  Not much help eliminating anyone in the census records or the IGI.

Looking for Ann Bulmer… Still!

Considering the 1861 census entry at East Cowton for what seems to be a widow named Ann Hall born in Danby Wiske…

BMD marriages (1841 to 1861 in Northallerton) for — Hall marrying Ann — are:

Jun 1842
Robert Hall & Ann Spence

Dec 1842
John Hall & Ann Porter

Mar 1844
William Hall & Ann Atkinson

Sep 1846
Charles Hall & Ann Hoggart

Mar 1853
George Hall & Ann Harker

None of these Anns are in the baptism list from Danby Wiske….

What happened to John Bulmer?

If this is not the correct certificate, perhaps John died back in Northallerton area.  There are a couple of possible listings on the BMD but based on NBI, neither looks likely.  The burial in 1858 could be John Bulmer born 1790 in Danby Wiske, son of William, brother of Thomas?

John seems to have ‘disappeared’ when Ann did?  Maybe I’ll eventually find them together?
